Top tips for goal setting!
Summit Osteopathy exists to empower people get the most out of life, with passion, joy and purpose.
We want to help you realise your summit, no matter how big or small! We want our patients to feel in control of their bodies- educated and empowered, no matter their situation.
Lots of people make resolutions at this time of year; there is a great opportunity to reflect on what you have accomplished, and what you might like to achieve! We want to challenge you this year to have the goals come from a place of compassion, joy, nourishment and enrichment.
Below are some top tips to help with your goal setting for the coming week/ month/ year/ decade:
Focus on JOY- doing something out of obligation will last about 1 day. Should is a naughty word-"I should go for a walk". Focus on the activities that bring you joy or that make you feel good. If you love photography, take the camera on your walk and aim for one photo a day; or go swing dancing with a friend; walk to your local cafe for your coffee; or play with your kids in the park. You'll have a much better chance of sticking to those goals!
The old SMART goals:
Specific- make sure that you clarify what you'd like to achieve: "get fit" vs "be able to walk for 45 minutes without pain".
Measurable- can it be measured? "start meditating" vs "meditate for 20 minutes, 30 days in a row"
Achievable- "read everyday AND go for a run AND go to 3 yoga classes a week AND start intermittent fasting AND start learning Spanish" vs "1 hour of 'me time' a day"
Realistic- see above!
Timely- give yourself a 30 day challenge, or aim to keep something going for a week- then build up on it!
Fail to prepare, and be prepared to fail. Can you only exercise at night after work? Pack your clothes and shoes the night before so they're in the car already; prepare your meals on a Sunday so your food is ready to go; schedule "me time", so there is already time set aside for learning to knit or playing the trumpet.
Be accountable, put your goals on the fridge, or tell a friend. Better yet, inspire the people around you and get them involved!

You are awesome, and you've had wonderful things happen throughout your life because of you being you. When setting goals for yourself, make sure they come from a place of compassion and acknowledgment of the awesome you right now. If you're aiming to eat healthier, or start exercising more regularly, try to set goals that focus on nourishing yourself, or making yourself stronger or fitter to make you a more vital version of yourself. No negative self talk here!
And finally, if you have achieved a goal this year, CONGRATULATIONS. Stand on the Summit and yell it from the rooftops!
We look forward to working with you this year to help you achieve your goals, wishing you a happy, healthy and wonderful new year.
